about

88 Fingers Louie (named after a shady piano salesman from the Flintstones cartoon) has played a very important part in Chicago’s rich punk rock heritage. The seminal Chicago melodic punk/hardcore band got their official start in 1993 they quickly started writing, playing shows and released three 7” records during their first year as a band. The band’s sound was unique and a combination of all the things they loved about punk-rock— drawing influences from 80’s California punk, east coast hardcore as well as midwestern hometown heroes the Bollweevils, Naked Raygun and Pegboy.

A lot has changed in the 18 years since Chicago’s 88 Fingers Louie last released an album. Shortly after the release of a split EP in 1999 with Philadelphia’s Kid Dynamite, the band decided to call it quits due to differences in vision for the band’s future. Its previous members went on to form and join almost a dozen new bands in the wake of 88FL’s demise (Rise Against, Explode and Make Up, The Story So Far, Paper Mice, Alkaline Trio and many more). This is a story with many stops and starts, ups and downs and many of the players have come and gone throughout the band’s career. What’s most important is that they are back with a new album entitled Thank You For Being a Friend, and they can’t wait for you to hear it.

88 Fingers Louie has teamed up with Florida’s Bird Attack Records to release the new album and they are aiming for a summer 2017 release.
Not a day goes by since we got the band back together that I don’t scratch my head once a day and say ‘We’re actually doing this now—this is crazy,’...but I couldn’t be more excited.”

Track Name: Meds
The world's a dark and cruel place
Sometimes you have to get away
Such circumstances tend to drive a man insane
This medication is so untrustworthy
Another trip inside an ambulance
"For the last time" you said until you get the chance to overdose and do it all again
The cycle stays in line
Your liver's damaged goods
You said you did the best you could
We both know the lies you tried to hide away
In your dedication to ruining everything
You need some help finding the clarity
Unclench your fists, sit down and just listen to me
I've seen and done it all before, and lived to speak my mind
They tell you five you're taking ten
You're self-defeated once again
You're swallowed whole and all the vitriol can't put you back in place
I need to speak my mind
Let go of the wheel, and let us steer this time
They tell you five you're taking ten! You're self defeated once again!
Don't take 'em all, don't take 'em You're body's been through hell In your dedication to DIE!
Another trip inside an ambulance
"For the last time" you said until you get the chance to overdose and do it all again
The cycle stays in line
They tell you five you're taking ten
You're swallowed whole and all the vitriol can't put you back in place
Track Name: Advice Column
Pick a day from memory, when innocence was common
It's just not like that anymore
We've all seen better days, been bitten by familiar ways
The result of giving til it hurts
This is our time, so take some sound advice
A simple life is a life worth fighting for
Make their antics deafening, while the drama queens keep punishing all the time
Cuz what they say is ridiculous
Rehashing history lives little left to mystery and what's the fun in living in the past?
This is our time, so take some sound advice
A simple life is a life worth fighting for
Make their antics deafening while the drama queens keep punishing all the time
Swerving down memory lane
We've moved ahead, you're still the same
Forget those memories, move forward once in awhile
Cuz we're still changing
Changing all the time
All the time
All the time
We're changing
Swerving down memory lane
We've moved ahead, you're still the same
Forget those memories, move forward once in awhile
Cuz we're still changing
Track Name: Knock It Off
Change the frequency because I don't have an inkling to provide
My complacency is killing this relationship
And I'm moved to say that I don't have the answers you've denied
Just some mumbling
The beat goes on and on and on
I won't stand in line and suffer through so knock it off
Knock it off
Stay far away cuz I've had enough
All the poor complaints
The world is cruel and owes you everything
But the fact remains, you're not as bright as you're insane
But it's news to me
Sound the alarm because I don't care
You're irrelevant and I'll go on and on and on
I won't stand in line and suffer through so knock it off
Knock it off
Two heads are whining, yeah it's typical It's getting close to where it's comical You rode my ass til it's hysterical Hysterical
This ain't no exaltation
That wouldn't make sense
I won't stand in line and suffer through so knock it off
Knock it off
Track Name: All The Right Words
For as long as I remember, you've been the answer to my prayers
I've wasted life just to skirt by, only hurt by my confidence Now the sun rises and sets, and I'll take every chance I get All the pieces finally fit, and I explode a little bit
I finally found all the right words. Euphoria won't go away.
This happiness feels so familiar. I'm betting my life honestly. It's where I wanna be
Of course there's been confusion, and we let our tempers flare
In spite of all the loss that crippled us, we both had to push it away because we care
I'm a better man inside since you instilled a sense of pride Now our time is finally here. The sound is ringing in my ear I finally found all the right words. Euphoria won't go away.
This happiness feels so familiar. I'm betting my life honestly. It's where I wanna be
We got it right. Love's got its hold on me. I hope it never leaves Let's meet tonight. I'll stare into your eyes. We'll laugh until we cry I finally found all the right words. Euphoria won't go away.
This happiness feels so familiar. I'm betting my life honestly. No more sorries. We're going to liven up today.
Never worry until the end of time again
Track Name: Turned To Grey
I can tell you're lying. It's clear as day. I wish there was some other way
Another broken promise in a trail of tears
Destruction never clears away
It's not up to me. You made your bed now lie in silence
We both moved on far away
I wanna see those once sparkling eyes that entertained us
They both went dark and turned to grey
We used to sing "Don't Turn Away" until we made it to the end
Now the songs you're singing have no refrain
They always skip back to the start
It's becoming clear to me, life isn't guaranteed now
It's not up to me. You made your bed now lie in silence
We both moved on far away
I wanna see those once sparkling eyes that entertained us
They both went dark and turned to grey
See them. I really wanna see them.
See them. I really wanna see them now.
It's not up to me. You made your bed now lie in silence
We both moved on far away
I wanna see those once sparkling eyes that entertained us
They both went dark and turned to grey
Turned to grey
Turned to grey
Track Name: Here's To That Innocence
Do you remember wasting time when time was all we had?
You sat there and smoked your cigarettes and left nothing for me
The biggest worry we all had was just a passing grade
Street Fighter 2 and LSD, they meant everything
Let's raise a glass to days gone by
I just wish I could've said goodbye
Here's to that innocence the decades kept alive
I only wish you had that drive
The years went by and separately our paths went different ways
I married young, you married old, but the music remained I wish I wasn't too busy to check on how you'd been Those memories down at Club Abe I'll keep remembering Let's raise a glass to days gone by
I just wish I could've said goodbye
Here's to that innocence the decades kept alive
I only wish you had that drive I'll keep that innocence alive That you kept bottled up inside
There's no more innocence inside
When you lost that drive
Let's raise a glass to days gone by
I just wish I could've said goodbye
Here's to that innocence the decades kept alive
I only wish you had that drive
Track Name: Catastrophe Awaits
I tried to reconcile that night
Suppress the anger in a pill I'd rather throw away than numb it out
I'm going to honor this emotional fallout
Catastrophe awaits. My sanity's at stake. These words are tough to hear. I'm acting out of fear.
I used to bristle at the words you said. They remind me of a time I used to bottle up to hold it down
It's no wonder that I never stuck around
Catastrophe awaits. My sanity's at stake. These words are tough to hear. I'm acting out of a childish self-made fear.
Live in the moment. The past mistakes can suffocate. It's hard to breathe in this awkward war of words
It's so hard to live in the moment. The past mistakes can suffocate me. It's hard to breathe in this awkward war of words.
Starting to think I'm in a better place. It took some time to realize the threshold
Pain of mind is one I don't take light. I'd rather run away than stick around and fight
I'm moving on. This time I'm moving on. I'm moving on.
Live in the moment. The past mistakes can suffocate. It's hard to breathe in this awkward war of words
It's so hard to live in the moment. The past mistakes can suffocate me. It's hard to breathe in this awkward war of words.
I'm moving on. This time I'm moving on. I'm moving on.
Track Name: The Violence Of Denial
April days seem far away
Hanging out, all over town
We made plans for a life of plans
Seems over now with this darkened cloud
This silence stretches miles
And there's no way that we're ever recovering the violence of denial
it's over put the gun away tonight
For 90 days I kept away
Writing down and not reaching out
Your angry texts, and who knows what's next
They've done the job, as I'm finding out
This silence stretches miles
And there's no way that we're ever recovering the violence of denial
it's over put the gun away
it's over put the gun away tonight Fooled me once and I forgave you We picked up where we started
Fooled me twice, no make that three times
This time I'll stay more guarded
This silence, day and night Now that it's over, it's alright You go your way, I'll go mine
it's over put the gun away tonight
This silence stretches miles
And there's no way that we're ever recovering the violence of denial
it's over put the gun away it's over put the gun away
There's no more guilt from me tonight
Track Name: 2810
Sink or swim it's time to let it go
Fake friends - let 'em go
They count for nothing - they're just for show
Respect is never owed
You've got your reasons, all your own Don't sit back and do what you're told Your path is all your own
Things mean a lot
When everything feels cold, now you know
It's a part of growing up, to say
"I don't want to go back to that. I like this skin" Another go, another chance to hit the road
To get a fresh start on your own
Be stoked on what you've done
We're proud to see what you've become and we're excited for what's to come
These walls are always home
Things mean a lot, when everything feels cold now you know
It's a part of growing up to say
"I don't want to go back to that. I like this skin" Don't give up. Don't give in
You can do this. You can win.
Track Name: Our Tired Vices
I'm drinking to calm the memories
Thinking of darkened revelries
I made decisions based on lust and now you’ve lost all trust Fair enough
Midnight, I'm dying to reach out
These changes feel stranger 5 years out
I know these sorries can't compare
I left my conscience there I left it bruised and bare Would you like to compare? So free up your demands
and take my heart into your hand You feel that? That's real Remember how I made you feel Free up what's real
The one thing that's real
She's moving on, she's moving on She's moving on, she's moving on Think back on our tired vices
We got along, just like fire and ice, kid
I'm moving on, moving on
I'm moving on, moving on
Track Name: November's Big Mistake
I made a big mistake
Led my beliefs astray
All because another website told me, what to think and how to breathe
Drink up the water's lead-free And Flint's just an old memory Michigan itself ain't worth the effort What have they done for me?
This country's gone to hell, let's blame it on the blacks
Any critique from them is subject to attack Obamacare was just a poor man's handout Your food stamps won't pay for shit
You'll never say you’re sorry
You gave in, you gave in to them You'll never say you’re sorry now Keep with your own best interests Let them figure it out
You'll never say you’re sorry now
Who's sorry now
We're dying
And I just can't hide it anymore Can we take back what we lost March on, these fuckers can't shake Our resilience cuz we'll never break
Try your best to turn our words around and
Regret that big mistake
Four years, let's hope for less
These red states, they don't know what's best Progression's in and their regression's played out Until that happens, we won't rest
You'll never say you’re sorry
You gave in, you gave in to them You'll never say you’re sorry now Keep with your own best interests Let them figure it out
You'll never say you’re sorry now
Who's sorry now
This time, is our time
We can do anything
So say something, we won't back down again today
We're dying
And I just can't hide it anymore Can we take back what we lost And save it like we mean it
Track Name: My Final Story
I'd feel sick without this smile on my face
Haven't felt failure in awhile
It doesn't seem so long since I was enthralled
At the very thought of checking out
I held a mirror to all my thoughts
It feels different now that I'm involved If this is my final story, let's get it right Leave no regrets along the way
And let the people say, that "he gave it a good fight" You'll see these chapters aren't the same
each page, each page
Don't try and turn that page on me
Is this the final passage now?
I cut no corners when the going got tough
At least that's what I told myself
Mistakes were scattered when two wrongs made a right
Now the audience can see my intervention
I held a mirror to all my thoughts
It feels different now that I'm involved If this is my final story, let's get it right Leave no regrets along the way
And let the people say, that "he gave it a good fight" You'll see these chapters aren't the same
each page, each page
Don't try and turn that page on me
Is this my final passage
Make sure to leave a copy for all I love
Don't take my life away
